The young actor who you might know from Stranger Things was already a star who had to be found long before Eleven (or El) from the Upside Down existed. She was young Alice in Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Lizzie in Modern Family, and Ruby in Grey’s Anatomy.
Many roles showed how great the young girl from Spain would be, before she rose to stardom.
But here is the thing: nobody talks about those roles played by Millie. That’s exactly where I, as a Millie fan, will swoop in and shine some light on her most underrated roles in movies and shows.
If that’s exactly what you were looking for, then stay here for a bit and read on to learn about Millie Bobby Brown’s best movies and shows.
Well, let’s get right into it.
Where to Watch Them
It would be unfair to you if I leave you hankering for platforms to watch the movies mentioned below. So, let me first share where you can watch them.
However, you should make sure to watch them in the highest quality using a fast internet connection for a better experience. For that, I recommend Optimum. It is one of the few internet providers that offer fiber internet connectivity, affordable plans, and above all, bilingual Optimum Servicio al Cliente en Español for the Hispanic community in the US.
Now, let’s get down to where you can watch them.
- Grey’s Anatomy: You can stream the episode on Netflix in many regions. It’s also available on Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, depending on where you live.
- NCIS: This one is available on Paramount+ and CBS. Some regions also have it on Prime Video, so check there too.
- Intruders: The full series is available on Prime Video. It’s not the easiest show to find everywhere, but Prime should have you covered.
- Godzilla: King of the Monsters: You’ll find this on HBO Max (or Max), Netflix, Prime Video, and Apple TV for rent or purchase.
Ruby in Grey’s Anatomy
Only a very few of her fans (I am glad I am one of them) know that before she was battling Demogorgons or solving Victorian-era mysteries, Millie Bobby Brown played a role in Grey’s Anatomy.
Yes, that Grey’s Anatomy. The show that has made many people cry like a baby.
Millie played Ruby, a young girl who calls 911 when her mother collapses. She carries the entire episode on her shoulders while being in one of the most emotional scenes without any powers or CGI editing. It was just pure acting, and I loved it.
In that scene, you might see flashes of the Millie we know today – controlled emotion and that natural intensity she brings, even as a kid. Well, somehow nobody talks about it.
So, if you skipped this episode in Grey’s Anatomy, now’s the perfect time to watch it again.
Rachel Barnes in NCIS
NCIS lovers and Millie’s die-hard fans might already know about this one. Millie played a character named Rachel Barnes in NCIS, and honestly, she did a wonderful job here as well. She plays the daughter of a missing Navy officer.
For this character, Millie brings that emotional intensity we later see in Stranger Things. And she does it perfectly, which is something I have seen even seasoned actors struggle with.
It’s surely a short role, but it is absolutely underrated. If you’re curious to see how early she mastered subtlety, this is the episode you should watch.
Madison O’Donnell in Intruders
Now this one is dark. Intruders is that creepy BBC America series that people either forgot about or never heard of. But here’s the thing: Millie’s performance as Madison O’Donnell is easily one of the biggest proofs that she was destined for bigger, more prominent roles.
She plays a girl whose body becomes a vessel for an ancient, returning soul. Well, that must be a difficult role for a teenage girl. Yes, it is, but she switches personalities on screen pretty easily.
This role showed that Millie’s acting was beyond her age. Way beyond what anyone expected. The role was weirdly haunting, and yet, it’s some of her most impressive work before her fame from Stranger Things and the Godzilla movie series.
If you want a “hidden gem” performance, this is the one.
Madison Russell in Godzilla: The King of Monsters
I don’t know why, but I think directors are obsessed with Millie playing a ‘Madison’ in their movies.
Before the Kong crossover that you might know, came King of the Monsters, where Millie’s Madison Russell first appeared in 2019, where she played the role of a grieving daughter in a broken family.
Madison was caught between science, destruction, and parents on opposite sides of the apocalypse. And Millie nailed it.
If the scenes with her mother were heavy, the tension with her father was even heavier.
Well, it’s easily one of her most overlooked performances, mainly because critics had their eyes on the Titans (Godzilla and that three-headed monster we often see in memes), not the teenager carrying half of the emotional load of the film.
If you skipped this movie or barely remember it, trust me, Millie’s acting is the reason to revisit it.
So, here you go.
These were Millie Bobby Brown’s most underrated roles in different movies and shows. Now is the time to grab a bucket of popcorn and cherish her acting across diverse genres of films and TV shows.
